Mummers at the Door

11X14 ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
Years ago, in Newfoundland people used to dress up and go around to neighbors’ houses to entertain and see if they could guess who they were. if the mummers got let in it was a very amusing and enjoyable affair. there was dancing and singing and a few sips of cheer or some syrup and cake as a rule if you identify was found out you would be expected to uncover your face. The stay at each house was usually short and then the group would move on to the next home .
